The Märklin 39587 shows the class 181.2 electric locomotive in a particularly modern and high-quality version. The model is based on the prototype of the Schlünß Eisenbahn Logistik (SEL) and has the road number 181 218-9. This locomotive has been in service since September 2025 under the christened name "GÖPPINGEN" - a tribute to the headquarters of Märklin and a real highlight for Era VI layouts.
The locomotive has an oriental red paint scheme and is a form variant for the correct representation of Era VI. With its powerful appearance and the classic lines of the class 181.2, this model brings a piece of current railroad history to the tracks of the model railroad world. The body is made of filigree metal construction with numerous separately applied details, including handle bars, windshield wipers, imitation wheels, roof cables and UIC sockets.
Inside, a centrally installed , controlled high-performance drive with flywheel mass drives all four axles via cardan shafts. Traction tires ensure the necessary traction even on longer trains. The integrated buffer storage unit ensures uninterrupted operation even on short sections without power, such as points or dirty tracks.
The model is equipped with an mfx+ digital decoder and offers a variety of extensive light and sound functions. The three-light headlights change depending on the direction of travel and can be switched digitally, as can the two red marker lights. The lighting is provided by maintenance-free LEDs in warm white and red. In addition, the high beam, a double A light function as well as the cab and engine room lighting can be switched digitally and ensure maximum authenticity.
A special highlight are the digitally raisable and lowerable pantographs, which are equipped with different contact strips to match the prototype - ideal for cross-border use in different power systems. The buffer height complies with the NEM standard, as do the kinematic-guided close couplers, which ensure a realistic wagon transition. The length over the buffers is 20.5 cm.
Brake lines, screw couplings and various sockets are included with the model as separately attachable accessories, so that individual refinement is possible. The BR 181.2 "GÖPPINGEN" is therefore not only technically, but also visually an enrichment for every modern H0 layout and appeals to collectors as well as to company railway enthusiasts.
