The Märklin 39723 electric locomotive BB 22200 is a highly detailed new design in metal construction and is reminiscent of the great days of French express trains on the Côte d'Azur. With its striking "Nez cassé" design by Paul Arzens and state-of-the-art technology, this locomotive was the flagship of the SNCF in the 1970s and 1980s. Whether in front of the "Mistral", the "Train Bleu" or other luxury trains - the BB 22200 was considered the star locomotive until the TGV took its place in long-distance transportation.
Thanks to its multi-system technology, the BB 22200 could be used throughout France. A prime example was its use in front of the legendary night train "Train Bleu", which could be operated on a 1000 km route from Paris via Nice to Ventimiglia without changing locomotives. With 205 units built, the class characterized an era in which it embodied the luxurious flair of the Côte d'Azur. The Märklin model depicts the locomotive with the road number BB 22307 in operating condition around 1985.
The Märklin 39723 is a completely new design in the finest metal construction. It has numerous separately applied details such as windshield wipers, fan grills, grab irons, and roof lines. The newly developed pantographs are equipped with different collector strips and thus allow prototypical use for France. A buffer tank also ensures uninterrupted driving pleasure.
Equipped with an mfx+ digital decoder, the model offers extensive operating and sound functions. These include a controlled high-performance drive with flywheel mass, realistic driving and motor sounds, signal horns and special functions. The triple headlights change over with two red marker lights depending on the direction of travel. The headlights can be switched off separately on both sides of the locomotive and a double A light is also possible. The cab lighting can also be switched digitally. All of the lighting elements are equipped with maintenance-free warm white and red LEDs.
The locomotive has a centrally installed high-performance drive with a flywheel that drives all four axles via a cardan shaft. Two axles are equipped with traction tires to ensure a high tractive force. The buffer height complies with NEM standards. The scope of delivery also includes separately attachable parts such as brake lines, screw couplings and various sockets. With a length over buffers of 20.3 cm, the locomotive is ideal for use on H0 layouts.
The Märklin BB 22200 is ideally suited for use in international Era IV express train service. It looks especially harmonious in front of high-quality French express and night trains. With its numerous digital functions and high level of detailing, it brings the fascination of the "Nez cassé" locomotives directly to the model railroad.
