The Märklin 39812 is a scale model of the RABe 501 " Giruno " - the electric high-speed multiple unit of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), also known as the EC 250. This model represents the cross-border EuroCity 151 Frankfurt - Milan in operating condition around 2024, with the train number RABe 501 022 and the coat of arms of the Canton of Vaud/Waadt.
The five-car basic set consists of two end cars and three middle cars. The coaches are structured as follows:
The middle coaches F, G and H are permanently coupled together via Jakobs bogies. The controlled high-performance drive with flywheel mass is centrally located in the restaurant car (G). All four axles of the adjacent Jakobs bogies are driven via cardan shafts. The power supply, which depends on the direction of travel, is provided by the front end car. Traction tires ensure reliable traction on the layout.
The model is equipped with an mfx+ digital decoder and offers extensive light and sound functions. These include a three-light headlights dependent on the direction of travel and two red marker lights that can be controlled conventionally or digitally. It is also possible to switch to the Swiss light change with white marker lights. Other separately switchable light functions are also available.
The LED interior lighting is fitted as standard in all carriages and is powered by the electrical connection of the entire train. The driver's cab and driver's desk lighting can also be switched digitally. A visual highlight are the illuminated train destination displays in the doors, which go out automatically when the train approaches.
The pantographs on the center cars F and H can be raised and lowered digitally. The train is completely true to scale and has many separately applied details. The bogies have link guides that ensure realistic movement. The model is suitable for a minimum radius of 360 mm. The total length of the basic set is approx. 112 cm.
The RABe 501 "Giruno" is ideal for model railroaders who want to realistically represent modern, cross-border trains on their layout. With its excellent technology, numerous lighting functions, high-quality workmanship and digital control, this model offers everything that SBB and EC fans could wish for.
