The opening of the high-speed line Nuremberg - Ingolstadt - Munich on December 10, 2006 marked the beginning of a new era in long-distance and regional rail traffic. The new line between Nuremberg and Ingolstadt can be operated at a maximum speed of 300 km/h, while the upgraded line to Munich can be operated at 160 to 200 km/h. The new line can be operated at a maximum speed of 300 km/h, while the upgraded line to Munich can be operated at 160 to 200 km/h. On December 6, 2006, the official inaugural run of the "Munich-Nuremberg Express" took place, which soon became Germany's fastest regional service to Munich via the new high-speed line between Nuremberg and Ingolstadt. It now forms the pride and joy of the Bavarian Railway Company (BEG), which organizes local and regional transport in the Free State: Regional trains run through the tunnels here on the tracks of the ICE line every two hours at speeds of up to 200 km/h - faster than anywhere else in Germany. Their travel time has thus been reduced by half an hour compared with the old route via Treuchtlingen. The rolling stock used is also unusual. The cars are former InterCity cars, which are pressurized and air-conditioned, and were prepared at the DB plant in Neumünster for use in regional service. Essentially, the cars were given a new paint scheme in the DB Regio product color traffic red. Otherwise unchanged cab cars of type Bpmbdzf and second class cars (type Bpmz) with the inscription "Regio DB - München-Nürnberg-Express" are available, which have since been classified as types 296.3 and 295.4 respectively. Only the ABvmsz (new type 184.0), which were created from Bvmz, had 1st class equipment installed in two compartments. For traction, DB-Regio Oberbayern rented class 101 electric locomotives from DB-Fernverkehr, which have a maximum speed of 200 km/h and are pressurized for operation on new lines. Until 2021, regular service was determined by six-car sets with the 101, an ABvmsz, four Bpmz and the cab car Bpmzdf. Thanks to the upgraded and high-speed line, it is now possible to travel between the state capital and the Franconian metropolis on regional services at speeds of up to 200 km/h in a good hour and a half - and all that with favorable conditions such as the Bayern-Ticket or other regional tickets. The connection is correspondingly popular with travelers in Bavaria - which is why BEG and DB-Regio want to significantly expand the service with new train sets. New double-decker trains from Škoda are to provide more trains and more space in the trains in the future. These vehicles will replace the sets currently in use.
