The Märklin 46173 refrigerator car set brings two historic freight cars to your model railroad layout that played an important role in cross-border refrigerated transport in the 1960s. Both of the German Federal Railroad (DB) refrigerator cars were leased to the Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund Zürich - a company that was founded in 1925 and is one of the largest retailers in Switzerland today. With this set, you can immerse yourself in a time when transporting food by rail placed high demands on technology and logistics.

The set recreates the operating condition around 1966/67 and is ideal for supplementing the Märklin Insider annual car from 2006. The combination of different types of construction and elaborate design makes this set a special highlight for collectors and company railroaders.

Technical Details & Features

The set includes two two-axle refrigerator cars of different construction types: a Tnoms 35 with smooth walls made of car construction panels and a Ths 42 with horizontal board paneling. Both models have ice hatches at the front and separately attached service platforms. Particularly noteworthy is the shape variant of the Ths 42 - the first to be realized with ice hatches and platform.

The wagons have different road numbers and are individually packed and marked. In addition, both cars are in the same outer packaging, which makes them particularly attractive for collectors. The length over buffers is 13.9 cm each.

Design & true to the prototype

The design of the wagons is faithfully based on the prototypes of the late 1960s. The refrigerator cars have historical lettering and Migros advertising and reflect the state of international refrigerated freight traffic at that time. The models provide an authentic picture on any Era III layout with international freight trains.
