With the Märklin 46485 tank car, you can add a historic freight car model to your H0 layout that realistically depicts the early tank car transport of the 1920s. The car is modeled after the American Petroleum Company (APC) version, operated by the Dutch State Railways (NS), and embodies the typical technology and design of Era II.
Tank cars like this one were used to transport petroleum, oils, and other petroleum products. In the Netherlands, the American Petroleum Company was a major supplier that leased its cars to the NS. The riveted tank construction, the brakeman’s platform with brakeman’s cab, and the compact design with two wheel sets were typical features of that era.
The model features a detailed, open-work chassis, a separately attached handbrake crank, discharge pipes, a braking system, and a work platform with access steps. The design also includes a classic brakeman’s platform with a brakeman’s cab, which gives the car its historic character. Slotted close couplers enable prototypical couplings in a train formation.
The car is designed for the Märklin AC system. For DC layouts, the appropriate E700580 DC wheel set can be retrofitted separately. Its compact length of 10.1 cm makes the car versatile—ideal for branch line or switching scenes.
An APC/NS tank car with a riveted tank construction, brakeman’s cab, brakeman’s platform, attached details, and a guide-mounted close-coupling. DC wheel set E700580 sold separately.
The Märklin 46485 brings the atmosphere of the early industrial era to your layout—a stylish Era II classic, ideal for international trains or as a standalone piece in collections.
