The Märklin 58341 "Silberlinge" commuter car set is a prototypical reproduction of the well-known German Federal Railroad (DB) Era III "Silberlinge" cars. These cars were a prominent part of local transportation and are also a popular highlight on many model railroad layouts. The set includes three carriages, two of which are 2nd class and one of which is 1st/2nd class, all in detailed design with the familiar peacock eye pattern. The "Silberlinge" commuter coaches were introduced in the 1950s and shaped the image of the German Federal Railroad until the late 1980s. Characteristic of these cars was the peacock eye pattern in the interior as well as the striking silver exterior paint scheme, which earned the cars their nickname. The Märklin model captures these design elements true to the original. Each car has many separately applied details, including finely reproduced bogies of the Minden-Deutz type with block brakes and a separately applied generator.
All of the cars in the set are equipped with maintenance-free warm white LEDs, which enable prototypical interior and end lighting. This lighting can be switched via the integrated digital decoder and can also be used in conventional operation. This offers a high degree of flexibility for use on digital or analog layouts. The couplers are guided in a close coupler link and therefore provide a safe and stable connection between the cars.
The wagons in this set have a scale length of 82.5 cm and are therefore perfect for 1-gauge layouts. With a passable minimum radius of 1,020 mm (1,550 mm with parallel curves), the wagons can also be used optimally in more demanding track layouts. The high-quality plastic superstructures in filigree design ensure a first-class appearance and durability. The set can be easily extended by using the automatic claw couplers, which can also be replaced with screw couplers if required.
