A true piece of railroad history in 1:220 scale: The Märklin 88700 Class 628.2 diesel railcar with Class 928.2 control car from DB AG represents the technological breakthrough in commuter rail service in the late 1980s. As a completely new design for Z-gauge, this model impresses with its high level of detail, excellent running characteristics, and features that will delight even the most discerning collectors.

A Pioneering Prototype in Regional Transit

As successors to the railbus era, the 628.0 series and, later, the production version 628.2 entered service with the Deutsche Bundesbahn in the 1970s and 1980s. These railcars not only offered greater comfort but also introduced new regional transit concepts developed in collaboration with the federal states. With their modern design, first-class seating, and wheelchair-accessible features, they represented a milestone in passenger rail transport during Era V.

Completely new design in Z gauge

The Märklin model is an entirely new development featuring an elaborately designed body and undercarriage. It is based on the original Deutsche Bahn AG model from Era V, including the traffic-red “Regio” livery and detailed lettering. Both cars—the power car and the control car—are permanently coupled together, resulting in a total length over buffers of approximately 207 mm.

Top-Class Technology

Equipped with a powerful bell-armature motor, both bogies of the power car are driven, ensuring high tractive force. The model features a buffer capacitor, LED headlights that alternate between warm white and red depending on the direction of travel, as well as simulated driver’s cab interior and passenger compartment lighting. Operation is possible on tracks with a minimum radius of R2.
