The Märklin 88825 Z "Wismarer Schienenbus" diesel rail car, DRG, Era II brings a real icon of German small and branch lines to the Z nominal scale. The prototype is the DRG type Hanover A Cvt-34 "Wismarer Schienenbus" diesel railcar. The paint scheme is wine red/ivory, the condition is assigned to Era II and describes the period from the end of 1935 to 1947. The road number is VT 135 079, with the designation Saarbrücken.
It is not without reason that the Wismar rail bus has the affectionate nickname "Schweineschnäuzchen". The distinctive engine front ends at both ends gave these two-axle railcars their unmistakable appearance. This unique shape in particular makes the model a special eye-catcher on any Z-gauge layout.
During the Great Depression, the Wismar railbuses helped many small and branch lines to maintain their operations. The design was simple and inexpensive: a welded coach body was equipped with a large-scale drive from the automotive industry for each direction of travel. As with road trucks, there was an engine front end, popularly known as a snout.
Many vehicles were also fitted with a roof rack for luggage or small goods. Between 1932 and 1941, the Wismar wagon factory built a total of 57 units. Railroaders and passengers loved these rustic railcars, which still have cult status today with their characteristic appearance.
The model shows the DRG rail bus, the so-called "Schweineschnäuzchen", in the color scheme wine red/ivory. It is finely detailed and has a chassis as well as superstructure attachments made of metal. Many attached parts complete the model effect and emphasize the special character of this railcar.
There is a correct buffer beam replica without couplers on both sides. This means that the striking front design of the Wismar rail bus remains particularly close to the prototype. The length over the buffer beam is approx. 53 mm.
The Märklin 88825 is equipped with a bell-shaped armature motor. Both axles are powered. The disk wheels are black/black nickel-plated. This makes the model a compact technical implementation for operation in Z scale.
The headlights are designed as 3x white / 2x red and change over with the direction of travel. Warm white and red LEDs are used for the lighting. The model also has a reproduction of the interior and the engineer's cab. There is also interior lighting with LEDs.
An important detail of the model is the attached roof rack. There is also an attached access ladder. These details are an excellent match for the prototype described and give the small railcar a particularly lively effect.
The scope of delivery includes a sprue with pieces of luggage. This further emphasizes the character of the vehicle.
