The Minitrix 18660 is a faithfully reproduced mail car of the Deutsche Bundespost (DBP) from Era III, based on the Post 4mg-bI/26 model. The model reflects the operational condition of 1963—complete with authentic lettering and paint scheme. The car was used on the Stuttgart–Frankfurt–Heidelberg–Stuttgart route and thus represents a distinctive element of rail mail service during that era.
The model is a new design and offers a precise replica of the historic prototype in N scale. It is equipped with close-coupling kinematics and features a coupler shaft conforming to the NEM standard—ideal for tight curves and reliable operation on modern layouts. With a length over buffers of 165 mm, it blends harmoniously into existing train formations.
The car is prepared for the retrofitting of interior lighting—ideal for nighttime runs or atmospheric station scenes. The generous window openings and detailed reproduction of the car body ensure that any added lighting will be particularly effective.
Such mail cars were a common feature of train formations in the postwar era and remained in service well into the 1970s. They transported letters and packages between major cities and mail distribution centers—often using dedicated loading and unloading tracks at stations. The Minitrix 18660 brings this slice of everyday railway life to your model railroad layout in compact N scale.
The Minitrix 18660 DBP mail car is the perfect addition for all model railroaders who want to enhance their trains with authentic auxiliary vehicles. Now available in the model railroad shop—get your hands on this classic of railway mail service!
