Prototype: The Gms 54 were the first covered freight cars of the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB), created from the conversion of older cars. The chassis of the old cars was particularly reused. Special production lines were set up in the repair works (AW) in Fulda and Munich-Freimann for production. By the early 1960s, about 14,100 Gms 54 were built. The car bodies were made of synthetic resin wood panels, the floor of pine planks, and the roof of PIB or PVC plastic. By 1968, around 13,800 cars had been reclassified as Gls 205 and received UIC steps and roofs made of StCu sheet metal. By the end of 1987, around 4,000 cars were still in service, gradually being decommissioned. Some cars were used as railway service cars until the 1990s or sold to construction companies.
Model: Modellbahn Union offers H0 scale models of the Gms 54 cars, featuring detailed design and precise printing. Country-specific codes and various inscriptions are taken into account, including versions with and without a brakeman's platform. All models are equipped with short coupling mechanisms and NEM coupling sockets. Each operating number is produced in a limited edition of 200 pieces.
