The Saxon VI K, a narrow-gauge steam locomotive with a long tradition, was introduced on the Saxon State Railroad in 1918 and later taken over by the German State Railroad (DR). The VI K played a central role in regional freight and passenger transport on the winding and often steep narrow-gauge lines in Saxony. Its performance was improved by technical modifications in the course of reconstruction (Reko), which is reflected in the model of locomotive 99 1715-4. With its characteristic design and welded water boxes, the VI K remains one of the best-known narrow-gauge steam locomotives to this day.
Era IV (1970-1990) was a phase of technical development and rationalization in railroad operations. The Deutsche Reichsbahn modernized numerous vehicles and increasingly relied on steam locomotives in need of reconstruction in order to extend their service life. The VI K Reko with the road number 99 1715-4 is an example of this approach: It was optimized with welded water boxes and technical modifications in order to meet the high requirements of narrow-gauge operation in the GDR.
Modellbau Veit specializes in detailed narrow-gauge models that meet the highest standards. With the VI K Reko, the manufacturer has created a model that impresses with its precisely manufactured components and exact reproduction of technical details. The combination of high-quality materials, the finest engravings and the option of digital upgrading makes this model a highlight on any TTe layout.
The model is equipped with a powerful bell-shaped armature motor with flywheel, which ensures smooth and even running. The locomotive has a solderable 6-pin interface which allows the installation of a decoder. A sound decoder (4 x 7.8 x 25 mm) and a loudspeaker (11 x 15 x 9 mm) can be installed as an option to add realistic sounds to the model.
The locomotive is designed for operation with 12 V direct current (DC) and can be used on narrow track radii from 195 mm. This makes it ideal for compact narrow-gauge layouts. Modellbau Veit's own coupling system ensures a secure connection with other wagons and vehicles.
The VI K Reko is made of high-quality materials, including white metal, brass investment casting and nickel silver etched parts, which ensure precise and durable construction. The undercarriage frame and wheels are made of robust plastic, which ensures stability and attention to detail. The fine engravings and the detailed reproduction of the welded water boxes and the old roof with fan make the locomotive a masterpiece of model making.
The model shows the welded water boxes typical of the reconstructed VI K locomotives, which contributed to stability and improved water storage. The classic old roof with integrated fan has also been faithfully reproduced. These details give the locomotive its authentic appearance and make it a real eye-catcher on any model railway layout.
The model has an analog design as standard, but can easily be converted to digital operation. The solderable 6-pin interface allows the installation of a digital decoder, while the optional sound decoder provides the locomotive with realistic steam locomotive sounds. Model railroaders who value an immersive driving experience will particularly appreciate the option to add sound.
The VI K Reko is designed for the TTe gauge and is therefore on a scale of 1:120. With a minimum radius of just 195 mm, it can also be used on narrow track layouts and is therefore perfect for detailed narrow-gauge layouts. The 2-wire direct current system (DC) makes the model compatible with most common model railroad systems.
The model is supplied as a fully assembled VI K Reko 99 1715-4 steam locomotive. The scope of delivery also includes a supplement with technical details and care instructions as well as information on the installation of optional components.
