With the Piko 21704 BR 151 electric locomotive, PIKO presents a new shape variant of this legendary freight locomotive of the German Federal Railroad. The model perfectly reproduces Era IV and impresses with its high level of detail, modern technology standards and the option of digital retrofitting. The BR 151 was the backbone of heavy freight traffic - now PIKO is bringing this historic powerhouse into your model railroad world.
The BR 151 is a true masterpiece of German railroad history. PIKO has reproduced this prototype with the utmost care: the finest engravings, a realistic paintwork in the classic DB color scheme of era IV and separately applied parts such as grab irons, rail scrapers and filigree metal scissor pantographs make the model a visual highlight.
The electric locomotive has digitally switchable cab and engine room lighting (when retrofitted with a decoder) as well as realistic starting lights. The light changes in white/red depending on the direction of travel. With the PluX22 interface, the model is optimally prepared for digital upgrading - the PIKO sound decoder #56523 is available as an option.
The class 151 was introduced in 1972 as the powerful successor to the class 150. With a top speed of 120 km/h and high tractive power, it was used to accelerate freight train traffic. Stationed in Hagen and Nuremberg, it shaped the image of the Bundesbahn for decades. In 1994, it was assigned to DB Cargo, and many of the locomotives are now used by private railroad companies - a sign of its exceptional reliability.
The model is suitable for a minimum radius of 358 mm and fits on all common DC track systems. Thanks to the NEM shaft with close coupler link, a safe connection with Era IV freight or commuter cars is possible without any problems. Retrofitting with the appropriate sound decoder is particularly recommended for a complete digital experience.
Whether as a collector's item or an operating model - the Piko BR 151 is aimed at discerning model railroaders who value technology, history and appearance. Ideal for friends of the German Federal Railroad, freight transport enthusiasts and digital beginners with upgrade ambitions.
Get a real piece of German Federal Railroad history on your layout with the PIKO BR 151. Novelty 2025 - now available in the model railroad store and available soon!
