The Piko 21719 Class 388 electric locomotive brings an ultra-modern locomotive concept to your H0 layout with the Traxx series 187. In the Metrans Cargo design and with the typical smooth side look of Era VI, this locomotive is a must for all those who rely on modern technology and current railroad companies. The locomotive is designed for direct current operation and is equipped with numerous digital functions that can be retrofitted.

Technology of the latest generation

The Traxx 3 locomotive is equipped with four metal single-arm pantographs. The driver's cab and engine room are prototypical. The digital cab lighting can be switched separately when using a suitable decoder (PluX22). The locomotive runs reliably on radii from 358 mm and is prepared for demanding model railroad operation.

Modern hybrid technology - Traxx 3 with diesel engine

The class 187 is a milestone in European freight train traffic. Designed for two alternating current systems (15 kV / 25 kV), it has a 180 kW diesel auxiliary motor to be able to bridge short non-electrified routes at up to 50 km/h. The Metrans Cargo design variant shown here is exemplary for the international use of modern logistics companies.

Possible applications & expansion

Thanks to the PluX22 digital interface, the model can easily be equipped with the PIKO sound decoder #56545. Coupling via NEM shaft with close coupler link allows use in container, intermodal or block train operation - typical for today's freight train concepts.
