With the S489.0 Laminátka electric locomotive, PIKO presents an exciting novelty for the year 2025. This model, which is based on the BR 499 series, is in the characteristic design of the Československé státní dráhy (ČSD) for Era IV. It combines state-of-the-art technology, authentic design and the highest quality to offer an exceptional driving experience on the model railroad layout.
The S489.0 series, also known as the "Laminátka", was one of ČSD's most distinctive electric locomotives. Its nickname is derived from the use of glass fiber reinforced plastic for the driver's cab - a technical innovation of its time. The locomotive was developed in the 1960s and used in a wide range of applications, including passenger and freight transport. With its distinctive shape and characteristic paintwork, the Laminátka was a familiar sight on the tracks of Czechoslovakia and a symbol of the modern technology of the era.

For a realistic look and functionality, the model has LED light changes in white and red depending on the direction of travel, supplemented by driver's desk lighting that authentically illuminates the interior of the locomotive. The driver's cab and engine room lighting can also be switched digitally and can be conveniently controlled via the PluX22 decoder. The integrated PluX22 interface allows individual adaptations and extensions, making the model versatile and meeting the requirements of modern model railway layouts.
The S489.0 Laminátka impresses with its faithful reproduction of the original. The striking shape of the housing and the characteristic paintwork in the colors of the ČSD make this model a visual highlight. In addition, intricate details such as the driver's desk lighting and the precise workmanship add the finishing touches.
The model is designed for the H0 gauge (scale 1:87) and is ideal for layouts with a minimum radius of 358 mm. It uses an alternating current system that is fully compatible with Märklin layouts. With a length over buffers of 189 mm, the locomotive fits perfectly into typical Era IV scenarios.
