The Piko class 3193 with the Stern & Hafferl design is a modern dual-power locomotive that can run on both diesel and overhead lines. Based on the Vectron Dual Mode from Siemens, this model represents real progress on the model railroad and reflects the innovative power of modern railroad technology - ideal for Era VI.
The locomotive has a metal pantograph, digitally switchable cab and engine room lighting (can be retrofitted via a PluX22 decoder) as well as free-standing windshield wipers and handrails. There is a freely rotating fan wheel on the roof, the sides show fine fan grilles, the driver's cabs allow a view into the engine room - a real eye-catcher for modern layouts.
Siemens has been offering the Vectron Dual Mode for a wide range of applications since 2019. As the class 3193, the locomotive is also in service with Stern & Hafferl - a private Austrian railroad company. The locomotive combines diesel and electric drive in one vehicle and is therefore efficient on both electrified and non-electrified lines.
The model is suitable for all H0 DC layouts with a minimum radius of 358 mm. A PIKO sound decoder (available separately) can be easily retrofitted via the NEM 658 PluX22 interface. The locomotive is compatible with many modern cars and train sets via the NEM shaft with close coupler link.
Ideal for model railroaders with an interest in current vehicle types, technology fans, private railroad collectors and anyone who would like to use new items from Austria on their layout. Also perfectly suited as a basis for sound retrofitting.
