With the Piko 21791, PIKO is launching an exciting shape variant of the proven class 243 - designed in the attractive design of the Leipzig S-Bahn and in use at WFL (Wedler Franz Logistik GmbH & Co. KG). This new 2026 model is a real highlight for modern Era VI model railroad layouts and impresses with its eye-catching design, precise details and the latest technology with digital preparation.
Locomotive 243 019 runs in current private railroad operation and symbolizes the modern use of proven technology in local transport. This model is particularly interesting for model railroaders who want to depict authentic scenarios around today's S-Bahn services in Central Germany on their layout.
The model has a DC design and a PluX22 digital interface in accordance with NEM 658, so that a digital or sound decoder - such as the PIKO decoder #56558 - can be easily retrofitted. Two traction tires ensure reliable traction - even with longer train sets in local transport operations.
The equipment includes a white/red light change depending on the direction of travel as well as digitally switchable cab lighting. This function is available when using a decoder and provides realistic scenes for shunting or night operation. The LED technology used is long-lasting and energy-efficient.
With a length over buffers of 191 mm, the model is suitable for use on all standard H0 track systems. The minimum radius is 358 mm. Thanks to the NEM shaft and close coupler link, the locomotive can be flexibly combined with passenger cars or control cars - ideal for realistic modern-day S-Bahn trains.
The class 243 originally belonged to the DR and was taken over into the DB fleet as class 143 after reunification. Today, it is in the hands of private railroad companies such as WFL - including in the colorful design of the Leipzig S-Bahn. This livery makes the model a colorful eye-catcher on any modern layout with a focus on local transport.
The scope of delivery includes the Piko 21791 electric locomotive in DC version, operating instructions and accessories for additional visual detailing. The locomotive is analog ex works, but is prepared for digital retrofitting.
This model is aimed at model railroaders who are interested in current S-Bahn and private railroad traffic. Particularly suitable for scenes in central Germany and on modernized local transport systems with a regional focus. The modern color scheme ensures a high recognition value and brings color to the layout.
