With the Piko 21839, an ultra-modern locomotive for flexible railroad operation appears: the BR 248 "Vectron Dual Mode" in the current livery of the private freight railroad SETG. This 2026 novelty faithfully reproduces the innovative dual-power locomotive from Siemens in H0 - including fine fan grilles, openly visible engine room and metal scissor pantograph.
The prototype was presented by Siemens Mobility in 2019 and combines diesel and electric operation in one machine. The ability to run on routes with and without contact wire without changing locomotives makes the class 248 a particularly economical and environmentally friendly all-rounder - also a real enrichment for modern Era VI layouts in the model.
The locomotive has a PluX22 interface in accordance with NEM 658 and is therefore ideally prepared for retrofitting with a PIKO sound decoder #56631. When using a decoder, the engine room and driver's cab lighting can be switched digitally, which ensures realistic night and shunting scenarios.
The model has a white/red light change depending on the direction of travel and factory-installed driver's cab lighting. There is a freely rotating fan wheel on the roof, which contributes to the impressive appearance, as do the finely detailed fan grilles. Free-standing windshield wipers and handrails round off the harmonious overall appearance.
With a length over buffers of 230 mm and a minimum radius of 358 mm, the locomotive is suitable for operation on all standard H0 layouts. It has two traction tires for strong traction and is equipped with NEM shafts and close coupler link - ideal for heavy freight trains, block trains or modern mixed traffic.
SETG uses the Vectron Dual Mode in freight traffic and benefits from its efficiency when switching between diesel and electric operation. The PIKO version reproduces the BR 248 with high prototype standards and enables current scenarios from real rail operations - on electrified main lines as well as on branch lines without overhead wires.
The scope of delivery includes the Piko 21839 electric locomotive/diesel locomotive BR 248 SETG in DC version, operating instructions and accessories for optical finishing work. The locomotive can be retrofitted for analog and digital operation - including all lighting functions.
Ideal for model railroaders with a focus on current freight traffic, sustainability and innovative technology. The combination of modern design, digital options and SETG prototype makes this model a must-have for any Era VI layout with a current focus.
Experience the modern dual-power technology of the Vectron Dual Mode now also in the model with the Piko 21839 BR 248 SETG. Secure it now - innovative, versatile and prepared for digitalization!
