With the Piko 22034, PIKO brings the Italian diesel locomotive D.445 in the third series version with mounted snow plow to the H0 tracks. This model in the modern Era VI reflects the robust operations in today's railroad operations - whether on lines with difficult weather conditions or in the regional operational network. The locomotive impresses with its realistic design, numerous details and contemporary technology for digital model railroad operation.
The D.445 has been the backbone of FS (Ferrovie dello Stato) diesel operation for decades. In the third series, visual and technical enhancements have been implemented - including the option of equipping it with snow plows, as shown in this version. This makes it perfectly suited for realistic use in mountain and winter operation.
The model is designed for direct current operation and is equipped with a PluX22 digital interface (NEM 658). This makes it easy to retrofit digitally, even with a sound decoder. The model is prepared for a PIKO sound decoder - ideal for all those who want to retrofit their locomotives with sound.
The equipment includes a white/red light change depending on the direction of travel and digitally switchable driver's cab lighting. The LED technology ensures harmonious light distribution and a long service life - ideal for operational displays at night, in tunnels or in the depot.
The locomotive impresses with free-moving fan wheels under finely etched fan grilles, a detailed interior and an exact implementation of the third construction series with attached snow plows. This makes the locomotive particularly suitable for layouts with an Alpine theme or scenes with winter flair.
With a length over buffers of 162 mm and a minimum radius of 358 mm, the model is fully suitable for layouts - from branch lines to main line traffic. Two traction tires ensure reliable traction. The locomotive is equipped with NEM shafts and close coupler link - for reliable couplings with cars from all manufacturers.
The D.445 is still in use in Era VI on many non-electrified lines in Italy.
