PIKO 22040 - H0 Diesel locomotive class V 90, DB, Era III

With the Piko 22040, PIKO presents a particularly detailed realization of the diesel-hydraulic shunting locomotive V 90 of the German Federal Railways. The model shows the locomotive in its classic Era III design - including the Behr type double fan, pot antenna and many finely applied parts. The V 90 was the backbone of heavy shunting and transfer traffic - and the model is a must for authentic operating scenes of the late 1960s.

The V 90 was developed from 1964 as a more powerful alternative to the V 100. With 1,100 hp and a robust construction, it was designed for demanding use in freight train and shunting service. PIKO presents this successful model with attention to detail and technical sophistication - ideal for layouts with a focus on DB freight traffic in Era III.

Digitally prepared & sound-capable

The locomotive is intended for direct current operation and is equipped with a NEM 658 PluX22 digital interface. The installation of a sound decoder - e.g. PIKO #56655 - is possible without any problems. The model is therefore ideally prepared for entry into digital operation.

Lighting & digital functions

The equipment includes a white/red light change depending on the direction of travel as well as digitally switchable driver's cab lighting. The illuminated driver's desk provides additional operating atmosphere - especially at dusk or at night.

Detailing & equipment

The model has many highlights: Pot antenna, locomotive whistles, wind deflectors, fine handrails and steps are delicately applied. Sleeve buffers with handles, lubrication and sand boxes as well as brake lines and coupling hooks are also included for self-assembly - for a realistic appearance.

Technology & compatibility

With a length over buffers of 165 mm, the locomotive is ideal for use in shunting yards, transfer tracks and in classic freight trains. The minimum radius is 358 mm. Two traction tires provide powerful traction. The locomotive is equipped with NEM shafts and close coupler link.

Prototype & field of application

The V 90 became the backbone of single car traffic on the DB. In Era III, it was painted purple and was to be found throughout the country at large marshalling yards and in line service. With the reproduction of this version, the model enables authentic scenarios of the early Bundesbahn era.

Scope of delivery

The scope of delivery includes the Piko 22040 V 90 of the DB in direct current version, instructions and accessories such as brake hoses and coupling hooks. The locomotive is analog ex works, but can be fully digitized and retrofitted with sound.
