PIKO 22042 - H0 Class V 90 diesel locomotive, DB, Era III with sound

With the Piko 22042, PIKO brings the sound version of the powerful diesel locomotive V 90 of the German Federal Railroad in the classic Era III version to the H0 tracks. The locomotive comes in the original purple-red livery with numerous filigree add-on parts - including a factory-fitted PSD XP sound decoder with authentic driving sounds and functions.

The V 90 was created as a further development of the V 100 - more robust, longer, more powerful. It revolutionized the DB's shunting and mainline service when it entered service in 1964. Equipped with the reliable MTU 12V engine and a top speed of 80 km/h, it became the backbone of single wagon traffic - a role that it still fulfils today at DB Cargo in its modernized state.

Sound & digital technology ex works

The factory-installed PIKO XP sound decoder (PluX22) offers numerous true-to-original sounds such as engine sound, fan, signal horn, brakes and more. The locomotive is fully digitized at the factory and immediately ready for use with all common DCC-controlled DC systems.

Lighting & functions

A white/red light change depending on the direction of travel and digitally switchable driver's cab lighting are part of the equipment. The driver's desk is also illuminated, which ensures atmospheric operations, especially in night operation and BW scenarios.

Detailed design

The finest add-on parts such as the Behr type double fan, pot antenna, whistles and specially attached wind deflectors make the locomotive a visual highlight. Further details include handrails, steps, sleeve buffers with handles and attached lubrication and sand boxes. Brake hoses and coupling hooks are included for self-assembly.

Technology & compatibility

With a length over buffers of 165 mm and a minimum radius of 358 mm, the locomotive is ideal for use in heavy shunting and transfer traffic. Two traction tires ensure high traction. The locomotive is equipped with an NEM shaft and close coupler link - for prototypical train formation.

Prototype & area of use

In Era III, the V 90 was used by the DB in large shunting yards, on transfer runs and in light mainline service. Its design laid the foundation for later series such as the 291 and 294. This model allows authentic scenes from the heyday of the German Federal Railroad - in top technical and visual quality.
