Shape novelty 2026: With the Vectron Dual Mode BR 248 locomotive, PIKO is bringing a state-of-the-art model to the tracks in G gauge. The locomotive combines diesel and electric drive in one vehicle and thus stands for maximum flexibility in rail operations. Developed on the basis of the tried and tested Vectron DE from Siemens Mobility, the model is a pioneering step in Era VI rail transport. The version in the design of NorthRail, PIKO and WFL impresses with authentic details and robust workmanship.

Technical features and design

The model of the heavy version BR 248 has a direction of travel-dependent light change in white/red. The drive is analog, but can easily be retrofitted for digital operation including sound decoder. The locomotive is designed for garden railroad layouts with a minimum radius of 600 mm. The length over buffers is an impressive 717 mm.

Design and equipment

This G locomotive features numerous attached details such as windshield wipers, GPS antenna, fine fan grilles and doors that can be opened. Brake hoses and coupling hooks are also included and ensure a particularly realistic impression. A sun blind is included with the model for retrofitting and completes the visually and technically sophisticated design of this Era VI locomotive.

Prototypical technology for modern operations

The class 248 allows flexible use on electrified and non-electrified lines. It uses either the 2,000 kW diesel engine from MTU or the power from the overhead line. A compact design with an integrated main transformer in the locomotive frame contributes to operational efficiency.
