New shape 2026: The Vectron Dual Mode BR 248 brings the latest technology to the garden railroad. This heavy dual-power locomotive from PIKO is painted in the livery of NorthRail, PIKO and WFL and stands for maximum flexibility, environmental friendliness and performance. It can run on overhead line power as well as diesel power and is therefore ideal for changing track conditions. With a factory-installed PIKO sound decoder, this model provides a realistic driving experience at the highest level.

Technology and digital functions

The locomotive is equipped with a PIKO sound decoder at the factory. In digital operation, it offers additional functions such as pantographs that can be raised and lowered, a motor-driven fan wheel, an evaporator, and switchable engine room and cab lighting. It is also equipped with a digitally controllable coupler. The light changes in white/red depending on the direction of travel.

Prototypical design & equipment

The heavy version of the BR 248 comes with numerous details: opening doors, attached GPS antenna, fine fan grilles and windshield wipers. Brake hoses and coupling hooks are also included. A sun blind is also included for retrofitting. With a length of 717 mm over buffers and a minimum radius of 600 mm, the model is ideal for large garden railway layouts.
