The VT 23 and VT 24 series are Deutsche Bundesbahn diesel multiple units consisting of two powered end carriages and up to two middle carriages. These were designated VM 23 and VM 24 respectively. In 1968, the railcars were renamed the 624 series and the vehicles equipped with air suspension were given the designation 634. From then on, the middle cars ran as 924 or 934. A total of 80 railcars and 55 middle cars were built by MAN and Waggonfabrik Uerdingen. The first trials with track curve-dependent car body control began in 1967. Numerous VT and VM were retrofitted with air suspension for this purpose. The multiple units usually consist of two powered motor coaches and one non-powered middle coach. However, units can also be formed without or with up to two center cars. An even larger number of middle cars is not possible in passenger service, but a maximum of three units / six engine units may be operated in a train formation to form multiple traction. From 2005, the railcars were replaced by new vehicles and decommissioned.
