With the PIKO 51187 H0 electric locomotive 144 188-0 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn in epoch IV, you can bring a piece of important railroad history to your model railway layout. The locomotive is based on the famous class E 44, which is considered to be the first large series-produced electric locomotive in Germany. Over 100 units were produced - a milestone in electric traction that shaped rail traffic in southern and central Germany in particular for decades. The locomotive 144 188-0 depicted here is a special feature: it was converted from the Höllentalbahn locomotive E 244 11 in 1963 and stands out from the series machines due to numerous structural changes.
PIKO has created this special version of the E 44 with great attention to detail. The two enlarged front windows, the sliding windows on the right-hand side, the double-nozzle ventilation grilles in the side walls and the modified roof shape with filigree roof garden are striking features. The DBS 54 metal scissor pantographs round off the authentic appearance. A clear view into the driver's cab underlines the high model quality and offers a realistic driving experience - whether in operation or in the display case.
The locomotive has an NEM 658 PluX22 digital interface that can be used to switch the cab and engine room lighting digitally - with the appropriate decoder retrofit. A PIKO sound decoder (#56634) can also be retrofitted, adding realistic operating sounds. This makes the model a highlight for all those who value technical sophistication and visual authenticity.
The model is precisely assigned to Era IV (approx. 1970-1990) - a time of structural change at the Deutsche Bundesbahn. The 144 188-0 is a must-have, especially for model builders who want to recreate scenes from this exciting period. The streamlined appearance of the E 44 series with its clear lines and robust shapes makes it the ideal vehicle for regional trains, express trains and freight transportation.
The locomotive runs on direct current and is designed for a minimum radius of 358 mm. Equipped with an NEM shaft and close coupler link, it can be easily integrated into existing train formations. Two traction tires ensure good tractive force on the layout. Whether in layout operation or as a showpiece - this model impresses with its versatility and well thought-out technical implementation.
