The PIKO 51188 H0 electric locomotive 144 188-0 not only brings a piece of German railroad history to your model railroad layout, but also real sound enjoyment. As a fully digitized version with a factory-installed PluX22 sound decoder, this model combines an authentic look with realistic sound effects. The E 44 is one of the most important developments in German electric locomotive history and became the defining universal locomotive in southern and central Germany. The model shown here is based on the E 44 188 variant rebuilt in 1963 - technically and visually a real specialty.
The E 44 188 was created from the former Höllentalbahn locomotive E 244 11 and was extensively reworked for use on the DB. The enlarged front windows, two sliding windows on the right-hand side, double-nozzle ventilation grilles in the side walls and the extended roof with modernized DBS 54 metal pantographs are striking features. PIKO has implemented these characteristic conversions true to the original and gives the locomotive an unmistakable appearance.
Thanks to the factory-integrated PluX22 sound decoder, the model offers a comprehensive sound experience: realistic driving noises, fans, horns and much more ensure maximum authenticity. In addition, both the driver's cab and engine room lighting can be switched digitally - ideal for demanding model railroaders who want to animate their trains down to the smallest detail.
The locomotive runs on direct current and can easily negotiate radii from 358 mm. Equipped with two traction tires, it also impresses with reliable tractive power on longer trains. The NEM coupling shafts and close coupler link allow flexible and reliable integration into various train formations. The lighting changes automatically between white and red depending on the direction of travel and ensures additional realism in operation.
Era IV stands for the transition to the modern German Federal Railroad with new color concepts and structural changes in operations. The 144 188-0 fits perfectly into this time period and complements both commuter and freight train formations on the model layout. In combination with cars from the 1970s and 80s, it unfolds its full historical effect.
