The PIKO 51189 H0 electric locomotive 144 188-0 is a real highlight for fans of classic electric locomotives and impresses as an AC model with a factory-fitted sound decoder. The locomotive is the rebuilt version of the legendary E 44 - one of the first mass-produced electric locomotives in Germany. Robust, universally applicable and a symbol of decades of electric train transportation - with this model you can bring a striking representative of Era IV to your layout.
In 1963, the 144 188-0 was created from the former E 244 11, a locomotive of the Höllentalbahn. The conversion brought with it numerous striking changes: enlarged front windows, double-nozzle ventilation grilles, two sliding windows on the right-hand side, repositioned doors, an extended roof and modern DBS 54 scissor pantographs. PIKO has faithfully reproduced these features in the model and enhanced them with a detailed roof garden and a clear view into the driver's cab.
Thanks to the integrated PluX22 sound decoder, the model offers extensive digital functions: Driver's cab and engine room lighting can be switched separately, while realistic sounds such as traction motors, horns and brakes bring the locomotive to life. The sound functions are fully mfx®-compatible, which enables smooth integration into modern digital control centers - ideal for Märklin layouts and users of the AC system.
The locomotive is designed for the AC system and has a length over buffers of 176 mm. The recommended minimum radius is 358 mm. With two traction tires, NEM shafts and close coupler couplers, it easily masters demanding routes and impresses with its safe driving characteristics. The light changes in white/red depending on the direction of travel and ideally complements the realistic driving experience.
Era IV was characterized by technical modernization and structural change. The 144 188-0 fits perfectly into this era with its unique design and striking appearance. It is ideal for depicting the local and freight traffic of the 1970s and 80s and adds a special highlight to existing vehicle fleets of this era.
