Description

PIKO Class E 32 DB Era III electric locomotive - Old-style electric locomotive with rod drive

The PIKO electric locomotive BR E 32 of the German Federal Railways (DB) from Era III is an impressive model of one of the iconic old electric locomotives that were used for heavy train service on the non-electrified lines. With its distinctive rod drive and spoke wheels, it conveys the charm of the early electric locomotives, which were strongly influenced by the steam locomotives of the time. PIKO has equipped the model with a multitude of details and digital functions to inspire both collectors and operators of model railroad layouts.

Technical details of the PIKO BR E 32 DB

The PIKO BR E 32 is powered by a powerful motor equipped with two traction tires to ensure optimum tractive power. The model is powered via all four axles and offers smooth and even running characteristics thanks to the flywheel masses and the excellent design. With a length of 150 mm over buffers and a minimum radius of 358 mm, the model is suitable for most H0 track systems.

The lighting uses LED technology and the model is equipped with a light change depending on the direction of travel. The 3 headlights and the 2 tail lights change between white and red light depending on the direction of travel. The cab lighting and the engine room lighting can also be switched in digital mode, making the model even more authentic and flexible.

The prototype of the BR E 32

The BR E 32 of the German Federal Railroad was one of the first electric locomotives with rod drive that was used for heavy freight train service in the 1930s. Its design and the 1'C1' axle arrangement were similar to steam locomotives, reflecting the transition from steam locomotives to electric locomotives in Germany. The rod drive was a trademark of these machines and contributed significantly to their characteristics. From 1968, the E 32 series was continued in the new numbering as the BR 132, while the E 32 16 remained in service as the last example until the 1980s.

Special features of the PIKO BR E 32 DB
