With the PIKO electric locomotive BR E 17 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) from Era IV, PIKO continues the successful series of the well-known old electric locomotives. This new design of the class E 17 impresses with a precise scale reproduction of the distinctive shapes of the prototype. The model reflects the modernization of the class, which was carried out from Era IV onwards on the front windows, the roof line and the front end design. Technically, the model offers modern driving characteristics, excellent tractive power and digital control with sound and lighting.
The PIKO BR E 17 is powered by a powerful five-pole motor, which is equipped with two flywheels to ensure silky-smooth running characteristics. The model is driven over all four axles, which ensures excellent tractive power. Two traction tires on the inside axles of the bogies further enhance the tractive power. The motor ensures a smooth and precise ride on your model railroad.
The model is illuminated using modern LED technology. The model has light changes depending on the direction of travel, with the 3 headlights and the 2 tail lights changing between white and red light depending on the direction of travel. The cab lighting and engine room lighting can be switched digitally, making the locomotive even more realistic and giving the model a lively appearance on your model railroad.
The class E 17 was developed by the German Federal Railroad in the 1950s and was one of the most powerful electric locomotives in German rail traffic. Its striking design and high performance in particular made it an unmistakable part of the DB. In the 1970s, the E 17 series was modernized, which was also reflected in its appearance and technology in Era IV. It was used for passenger trains and heavy freight traffic on non-electrified lines and was one of the main locomotives in the German railroad network.
