About the prototype: In 1957, the German Federal Railroad introduced the class E 40 for the first time, which was known as the class 140 from 1968. It was characterized by its enormous versatility, reliability and performance, which meant that it carried the main load of freight train traffic on electrified lines for a long time, but was also used in local passenger transport. DB Cargo has only stopped using the BR 140 since October 2016. However, BR 140 locomotives are still in service today, as DB not only scrapped the locomotives but also sold them on to private railroad companies.
About the model: several of the locomotives sold became the property of Erfurter Bahn Service. In addition to freight runs, for which the BR 140 locomotives are also used, this company also offers special runs in historic trains. The Piko model reproduces the design of the original excellently and also impresses with a detailed depiction of the running gear and superstructure. At the same time, great importance was also attached to the technical aspects. The model already has a digital decoder and various sound functions. In addition to the sound and digital decoder, there is also a red7white light change on board, which is very low-maintenance thanks to the LEDs used.
