With the Piko 52388 PKP Sm41 diesel locomotive, model railroaders receive an impressively detailed DC model with authentic sound that faithfully reproduces the powerful and reliable Hungarian M44 diesel locomotive. As the Polish version SM40/Sm41, it was used from the end of the 1950s and for decades dominated the scene at Polish marshalling yards, in works traffic and on transfer runs.

Historically and technically significant

At a time when the Polish railroads were still working with outdated steam shunting locomotives, the robust M44 offered an immediately available, powerful alternative. The machines used in Poland were adapted to the country-specific requirements, for example with safety and radio equipment. The prototype of the Piko Sm41 was used in numerous railroad depots from Warszawa to Wrocław to Gdańsk and proved to be a versatile workhorse.

Model version with many authentic details

The Sm41 appears in the ribbed body version and has an illuminated driver's desk and digitally switchable driver's cab lighting. Further highlights include attached sand boxes, sand pipes, brake shoes, extra tank, air conditioning unit, horn, fine handles and steps as well as the striking MAV-style exhaust system and PKP aerial - all delicately realized and precisely positioned.

Sound and light - factory-fitted

The locomotive is factory-equipped with a powerful PluX22 sound decoder (PSD XP), which provides an authentic sound and enables numerous additional functions. The direction of travel-dependent light change in white/red completes the range of functions and underlines the realistic effect on the layout.

Technology for reliable operation on DC systems

With a length over buffers of 130 mm, two traction tires and a minimum radius of 358 mm, the locomotive is ideal for use on all standard H0 DC layouts. The NEM coupler pocket with close coupler link enables reliable integration into existing train formations.
