Prototype and historical background

The Rh 2000 is based on the American 65-DE-19-A diesel locomotive, which was designed for military purposes after the Second World War. After the end of the war, some of these powerful machines found their way to Europe, including the Dutch State Railways (NS). In the 1950s and 1960s, these locomotives were used for heavy shunting and freight traffic. The model shows the locomotive in Era III operating condition.
