Prototype & historical background

The Rh 2000 of the Dutch State Railways is based on the American diesel locomotive series 65-DE-19-A, which was originally developed for military use. After the Second World War, some of these robust machines continued to be used in Europe, including by the NS. In the 1950s and 1960s, this locomotive was used for heavy shunting and freight traffic and had a lasting impact on the Dutch railroad network.
