With the class M61 diesel locomotive, PIKO is bringing a real gem of Hungarian railroad history to the model railroad layout in H0 scale. The NOHAB locomotives are among the most beautifully shaped vehicles in Europe - their elegant silhouette, striking front windows and side portholes still delight railroad fans today. The model of the MÁV version in Era IV impresses with its high-quality workmanship, impressive detailing and factory-installed sound decoder for a particularly realistic driving experience.
The PIKO BR M61 diesel locomotive appears under item number 52481 and is designed for the DC system in the nominal size H0. It belongs to Era IV and represents a vehicle of the Hungarian state railroad MÁV. The locomotive has a length over buffers of 218 mm and can easily handle radii from 358 mm. Two traction tires provide reliable traction, while a powerful, smooth-running motor with two flywheels ensures excellent running characteristics. A digital interface in accordance with NEM 658 (PluX22) is available, as is a factory-fitted PluX22 sound decoder.
PIKO attached great importance to the faithful reproduction of the iconic design of the NOHAB locomotives. The finely etched side ventilation grilles are visual highlights, as are the perfectly inserted front windows and side portholes. The detailed design of the bogies and the clean paintwork in the typical red of the MÁV round off the high-quality appearance. The harmonious combination of aesthetics and technology makes this model a real eye-catcher on any layout.
The locomotive is equipped with a PluX22 sound decoder that offers a variety of realistic sound functions. These include the pithy engine noise, signal horns and brake squeal. The cab lighting can also be controlled digitally. The light changes in white and red depending on the direction of travel using modern LEDs. The combination of powerful drive, digital control and authentic sound makes driving varied and realistic.
The M61 class was procured by the Hungarian MÁV in the 1960s as powerful diesel motive power for long-distance and express train service. The locomotives were manufactured in Sweden by NOHAB on the basis of the American EMD design and enjoyed great popularity thanks to their reliability and striking design. The M61 is still a legend on Hungarian rails today - and a real highlight for model railroaders interested in history.
The model is compatible with all common H0 track systems in the DC range. Thanks to the NEM shaft and close coupler link, it can be flexibly combined with different types of wagons. It is particularly suitable for use in front of express trains or as a striking locomotive for historical train compositions from Era IV.
The scope of delivery includes the MÁV class M61 diesel locomotive with a built-in PluX22 sound decoder, operating instructions and optional accessories for additional visual details.
The PIKO M61 is aimed at lovers of elegant diesel locomotives, fans of Eastern Europe and model railroaders with an appreciation for stylish historical vehicles. The combination of high-quality workmanship, prototypical design and powerful sound makes the model a highlight of any H0 layout - whether as a collector's item or in active operation.
