About the original: The DB AG class 245 is a diesel locomotive based on the Bombardier Traxx, which is a platform developed by Bombardier Transportation for electric and diesel-electric locomotives for use in Europe. 2400 locomotives have been sold on this basis in over 20 countries, with more than 800 units going to Germany, to DB AG, which is the largest customer. In Germany, the locomotives are mainly used for intercity services between larger cities in Germany and abroad in front of double-decker coaches. However, various problems occurred during operation of the class 245, such as overheating of transformers, clogged soot particle filters, radiator leaks and software errors.
About the model: The model of the BR 245 from Piko offers an accurately reproduced appearance and does not have to struggle with any of the technical problems of the prototype. A powerful motor with flywheel mass ensures excellent running characteristics and offers a pre-installed sound decoder, which makes the various light and sound functions digitally switchable. The decoder has the "fits mfx" seal of approval, which means that it can be used with all mfx functions of modern Märklin digital command stations. A high-quality loudspeaker provides a clear, powerful and realistic sound. Visually, the model is an excellent reproduction of the original. Various intricate details, such as free-standing handle bars, precise paintwork and the accurately reproduced structural features of the original ensure a very convincing look.
