The Piko H0 SU46 diesel locomotive from the PKP is a striking model of a powerful mainline diesel locomotive as used in Poland from the mid-1970s. Developed on the basis of the proven SP45, the SU46 was designed for heavy passenger and freight train service. Equipped with electric train heating and a modernized locomotive body including beaded side walls, this locomotive is a typical example of the industrial development of locomotive construction in the late GDR and the CMEA region.
The model impresses with its detailed roof design, free-standing handlebars and windshield wipers as well as true-to-original lamps. The digitally switchable cab and engine room lighting (can be retrofitted with a PluX22 decoder) allows atmospheric operation by day and night. The white/red light change depending on the direction of travel is integrated as standard.
The SU46 was produced in 50 series between 1976 and 1977 and was mainly used on non-electrified main lines of the PKP. Its high tractive power and train heating made it ideal for high-quality express train services - a real workhorse with an unmistakable design.
With an NEM 658 PluX22 interface, the model is ready for digital operation. A PIKO sound decoder (#56533) can be retrofitted as an option and also makes the locomotive the acoustic highlight of your layout.
For model railroaders with a focus on Eastern Europe, PKP fans and fans of powerful diesel locomotives in classic long-distance service. Also ideal for regional lines without overhead lines and international operating dioramas.
