About the originalAs the electrification of the East German rail network came to a halt in the 1950s, mainly due to a lack of power station capacity in the north, the Council of Ministers decided in 1966 that the traction change in the GDR should be achieved primarily with diesel locomotives. The 130 and 131 series were developed and were not entirely convincing. From 1974, the 132 series was put into service, which differed from the 130 series by having a 200 mm longer body, an additional engine room window between driver's cab 1 and the row of windows in the middle of the vehicle and an assembly hatch closed with a coarse-mesh grille. This class 132 was such a great success that the GDR ordered 709 units from the Voroshilovgrad locomotive factory (now Luhansk, Ukraine). Locomotives of the class 132 were used to haul passenger trains from regional traffic to high-quality express trains, but also for heavy freight traffic.
About the model: This model from Piko is a reproduction of a special model of the class 132. It is currently in service with DB AG, but still has a paint scheme that corresponds to the original DR paint scheme. In addition to this, the model is visually impressive with very precisely reproduced structural features of the BR 132 and various filigree components. On the technical side, the model can offer a powerful motor with excellent running characteristics, which has a Plux22 interface.
