About the original: The V160 was developed at the end of the 1950s until the beginning of the 1960s for the DB as a single-engine, medium-duty mainline diesel locomotive. The pre-series models were built in 1960, the series locomotives from 1964-1968. As local passenger coaches were no longer steam-heated from 1998, the locomotives were transferred to the DB Cargo fleet and were initially used for freight transport. The last DB V160 was taken out of service in 2004. Some of them were sold to private railroad companies or abroad, e.g. to Italy and France, where some of them are still in use today.
About the model: With this model, Piko is reproducing one of the standard locomotives that were used by the DB. A detailed chassis, precise printing and various intricate details combine to create an outstanding and realistic appearance. The model has the "fits mfx®" quality mark, which indicates that the decoder installed in the model can be used to its full extent with current Märklin digital control centers. The seal was developed together with Märklin and other manufacturers to make it possible to use all mfx functions with non-Märklin products.
