The Piko H0 DR class 119 diesel locomotive in the test run version shows one of the most exciting chapters of GDR locomotive construction. The locomotive, known as class 119, was manufactured in Romania from the end of the 1970s and was intended to replace the ageing V 100. However, numerous technical problems turned it into a problem locomotive. It was only with the installation of proven GDR engines from the class 118 that the class 119 became a powerful and flexible machine - especially on branch lines and in express train service.
The model appears in the rare test drive livery with high-positioned headlights. It features detailed bogies, free-standing add-on parts and impresses with its true-to-scale design. The direction-dependent light change in white/red is included as standard. The model can be digitized via the NEM 652 interface.
Originally delivered with Romanian licensed engines, the BR 119 proved to be problematic. However, after a comprehensive technical overhaul, it became a frequently used vehicle in DR medium train service - and is now a popular collector's item on model layouts.
The model is equipped with an NEM 652 interface and can be retrofitted with a PIKO sound decoder (#56557). This allows engine noises, fan running and signal horn to be reproduced true to the original.
For DR fans, collectors of rare paint schemes and model railroaders with an interest in locomotive history. Ideal for test train displays, operating dioramas or as a technical contrast on Era IV layouts.
