About the prototype: As the successor to the 110 series, the 111 series uses tried and tested parts from its predecessor model. It was built a total of 227 times between 1974 and 1984. Its main area of use today is regional and local transportation, while heavy long-distance passenger transport was also part of its remit when it entered service. Some models in the Rhine-Ruhr area were also used for S-Bahn services, for which they were painted differently and equipped with train destination displays in the form of roller conveyor displays. The 160 km/h locomotive was the last planned electric locomotive series of the Bundesbahn with conventional alternating current technology. Only the class 112.1 was procured in conventional technology from 1991 for political reasons following reunification. As of February 2022, 116 BR111s are still owned by DBAG, 65 of which are parked. A further 18 are privately owned.
About the model: This model of the BR111 from Piko depicts a privately owned locomotive of the RailAdventure railroad company. Free-standing grab irons, detailed electrical equipment and a very accurately reproduced running gear make the model, in combination with the fine paintwork, an absolute eye-catcher. The model is also technically impressive. It is equipped with a digital decoder with a Plux22 interface and various sound functions. It also has a red and white light change and excellent running characteristics. An NEM coupling shaft with KK kinematics makes the locomotive universally usable, even in combination with wagons from other manufacturers.
