About the original: The class 187 is an electric locomotive based on the TRAXX platform developed by Bombardier Transportation. The class 187 is the first variant of the third generation of TRAXX locomotives and has a modified head shape and various technical innovations compared to the previous generations. For the first time, the machines were prepared for the installation of an ETCS train control system during production. A last-mile module also made it possible to use non-electrified sections of track and sidings. This makes the locomotives even more universally applicable and eliminates various weaknesses of their predecessor models.
About the model: Piko uses a BR 187 from Captrain as the model for this model. Visually, this model impresses with the perfect reproduction of the design of the original, the precise, true-to-original printing and the complex, excellently reproduced roof electronics. But also many filigree details, such as the finely engraved bogies with many attached parts, free-standing handle bars and the vertically beaded side walls contribute greatly to the outstanding overall appearance of the model. It is driven by a powerful motor whose power is transferred excellently to the track, resulting in great driving characteristics and high tractive power. Thanks to a Plux 22 interface, the model can be quickly and easily equipped with a decoder to make the large number of light and sound functions digitally controllable.
