About the original: The class 186 is the German designation of the Traxx F140 MS, which belongs to the 2nd generation of locomotives based on the TRAXX platform from Bombardier Transportation. According to the manufacturer's designation "F140", these are freight locomotives with tatz bearing drive. In Germany, however, these were also approved for operation at speeds of up to 160 km/h, which is why they can also be used for passenger transport there. The second MS generation was initially ordered exclusively by leasing companies, which were interested in the locomotives due to the many available country packages. The many country packages resulted from the fact that the locomotive was designed as a four-system locomotive for the European AC and DC voltage systems.
