The ET22 is one of the best known and most widely used electric locomotives in Poland. Between 1969 and 1990, a total of 1,183 units of this powerful Co'Co' locomotive were delivered to the Polish State Railways (PKP). This makes it not only the most-built electric locomotive in Poland, but also in the whole of Europe. Thanks to its high performance, robustness and versatility, it found its place both in heavy freight traffic and in front of high-quality passenger trains.
With an hourly output of 3,120 kW, a top speed of 125 km/h and an operating weight of 120 t, the ET22 could easily haul over 3,000 t of heavy freight trains at 70 km/h. Even with fully loaded passenger trains of up to 700 t, it easily reached the maximum speed. Used on almost all electrified lines in the Polish rail network, the ET22 is still one of the defining features of the PKP-Cargo fleet today.
The PIKO 96346 model faithfully reproduces the ET22 in the current version of Era VI as a PKP-Cargo version. It is equipped with a factory-fitted PluX22 sound decoder, which realistically reproduces the characteristic driving and additional noises of this locomotive. The driver's cab and engine room lighting can be switched digitally and provide harmonious operating scenes. A detailed roof garden and precisely implemented lamp areas underline the high model quality.
The locomotive has a sturdy die-cast zinc frame that contributes to the high tractive effort. Two metal scissor pantographs, two traction tires and a close coupler link with NEM shaft round off the equipment. With a length over buffers of 221 mm and a minimum radius of 358 mm, the locomotive is also suitable for demanding layout designs with realistic operation.
The PIKO 96346 is an ideal choice for model railroaders aged 14 and over who want to authentically represent contemporary Polish freight traffic. Whether on large main lines, in transfer traffic or in heavy industrial use - this digitally equipped locomotive offers prototype fidelity, tractive power and functionality at a high level.
