In the course of the increased electrification of its main lines in the 1950s, the Polish State Railways (PKP) procured a large number of modern electric locomotives. Based on the license-built EU06, the universally deployable EU07 series was developed in the early 1960s. This design, based on English designs, became the most successful four-axle electric locomotive family in Poland and is still in use on many lines today.
The EU07 was designed for mixed use in front of freight and passenger trains and impressed with its robust technology, ease of maintenance and high suitability for everyday use. This versatility is also evident in the model: The PIKO 96358 shows the locomotive in its classic Era V version and creates a realistic image of this proven class with numerous details and clean printing.
The model has two finely detailed metal scissor pantographs and numerous separately applied components that round off the appearance true to the original. The buffer beams are also faithfully reproduced. The cab lighting can be switched separately after installing a suitable digital decoder. The locomotive is prepared for overhead line operation and thus offers additional operating options.
With a length over buffers of 183 mm and a minimum radius of 358 mm, the locomotive is ideal for use on standard H0 DC layouts. Two traction tires ensure reliable tractive power. Thanks to the NEM shaft and close coupler link, the EU07 can be safely integrated into existing train formations. The locomotive is also prepared for retrofitting a PIKO sound decoder (item no. 56552).
The PIKO 96358 is aimed at model railroaders aged 14 and over who want to expand their Epoch V layout with an authentic, technically sophisticated and visually harmonious model from the PKP stock. Whether used in front of express trains, intercity trains or heavy freight trains - the EU07 always cuts a fine figure.
