Piko 97831 Diesel locomotive modified, D&RGW 4001

The Piko 97831 diesel locomotive D&RGW 4001 is a powerful model of the famous KM 4000 series - here in the authentically modified version of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad. This DC version shows the condition of the locomotive in the mid-1960s, including all the structural and color modifications that were common on the SP series over the years.

Prototypically modified and precisely implemented

PIKO has faithfully incorporated the numerous modifications to the D&RGW 4001 into the model. The visible features include side air intake grilles, filter boxes, roof vents and exposed exhaust systems with flap valves. The locomotive has also been painted precisely to match the historical model, based on the SP 9100 series.

The powerful motor with two balanced flywheels gives the model smooth and powerful running characteristics. The modern LED lighting with white/red light change depending on the direction of travel provides a realistic representation of operation.

Digitally prepared with PluX22 interface

The model has an NEM 658 PluX22 digital interface and is therefore ideally prepared for simple retrofitting of a sound decoder. The locomotive can be used immediately in analog operation. The absence of an NEM coupler pocket underlines the model's consistent faithfulness to the prototype.
