The electric locomotives of the 1040 series built from 1950 onward were the first Austrian locomotives after the war. Their task was to take advantage of the progressive electrification of the rail network and to replace older steam locomotive models, especially on the main lines. Locomotives of this series were still in service in modernized form until 2003. In the beginning, they were used to haul express and freight trains. However, it soon became apparent that their use in front of express trains led to considerable wear and tear. Thus, over time, they were replaced in their original areas of use and instead used in front of regional trains and shuttle freight trains.
This model from Rivarossi now reproduces this locomotive, which was indispensable for Austrian rail traffic for many years. The model is dedicated to a modernized version with new side ventilation grills, green paint and with brake resistors on the roof. Freestanding grab irons and a very detailed running gear are just some of the many accurately reproduced details. Technically, the model can convince with an MTC21 sound decoder, which allows a variety of sounds.
