Roco 5500003 H0 train set 'Oberammergau' 5-teilig, DB, Ep. IV Product Details

Description

Roco 5500003 H0 "Oberammergau" train set from the DB: A Bavarian classic from Era IV

The Roco 5500003 H0 "Oberammergau" train set from the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) is a charming 5-piece set that faithfully captures the atmosphere of the idyllic Oberammergau railroad line of Era IV. With the electric locomotive 169 005 and four authentic freight wagons, this set is a wonderful homage to one of the first electrified railroad lines in Germany.

The prototype: The Oberammergau Railway

On January 24, 1905, electric operation began on the 23.7 km long line into the Ammertal valley. It was the first railroad line to be operated with an alternating current overhead line and the "traction current" commonly used today. This line was a pioneering achievement and set standards for electric operation in Central and Northern Europe.

The electric locomotive 169 005, originally known as LAG 5, was added to the Oberammergau Railway's fleet of vehicles from 1930. With its compact design and a length of only 8.7 meters, the small but powerful locomotive proved itself particularly in local transport. Its striking appearance and idyllic surroundings made the railroad line a special highlight for railroad enthusiasts.

The era of the "Neinasechzga" came to an end in May 1981, when regular service replaced the special charm of this local railroad. The "Oberammergau" train set keeps the memory of this incomparable era alive.

The railroad company: Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB)

The Deutsche Bundesbahn modernized its fleet in Era IV, but also relied on tried and tested vehicles such as the electric locomotive 169 005. This train set shows the typical mix of nostalgia and efficiency that characterized the DB in this era.

Era IV: The era of modernization

Era IV (1965-1990) marked a phase of upheaval and innovation in the railroad system. This model set perfectly reflects the technical advances and nostalgic elements of this period, in particular the charming combination of electric locomotives and freight wagons in local traffic.

Color scheme and design

The 169 005 electric locomotive is painted in a faded operating condition with authentic touch-up patches, which realistically depicts its decades of use in local transport. The covered freight car has movable sliding doors that add further realism. With a total length over buffers of 670 mm, this set is a real eye-catcher on any model railway layout.

Recommended purchase for model railroaders

The Roco 5500003 H0 train set "Oberammergau" is an excellent choice for model railroaders who want to bring the atmosphere of Bavarian local railroads and the charm of Era IV to their layout. The detailed design and versatile application options make this set a highlight for collectors and active model railroaders.
