The Roco 5510003 H0 "Oberammergau" train set from the German Federal Railroad (DB) is a 5-part model set that captures the charming atmosphere of the Oberammergau Railway in Era IV. With the 169 005 electric locomotive and four typical freight cars, this set is a perfect combination of nostalgia and modern digital technology including sound functions.
On January 24, 1905, electric operation began on the 23.7 km long Oberammergau railroad line. This line was the first railroad to be operated under an alternating current overhead line - a milestone for rail traffic in Europe. The energy was obtained from the Kammerl hydroelectric power station on the Ammer.
From 1930, the LAG 5 electric locomotive, later known as 169 005, joined the fleet on this line. Despite its compact length of just 8.7 meters, its reliability and performance were impressive. For decades, the Oberammergau Railway was known for its coziness and idyllic surroundings before regular service replaced the old era in May 1981.
In Era IV, the Deutsche Bundesbahn used a mixture of modern technology and tried and tested vehicles such as the electric locomotive 169 005. The "Oberammergau" train set shows the typical operating structure of this era and brings the history of this unique railroad line to life.
Era IV (1965-1990) stands for the modernization and standardization of the railroad system. Locomotives such as the 169 005 and the variety of freight cars in the "Oberammergau" train set reflect the characteristics of this exciting time.
The 169 005 electric locomotive is presented in a faded operating condition with authentic touch-up patches that document its intensive use in local traffic. The LED lighting, including digitally switchable shunting light and driver's cab lighting, provides a realistic driving experience. The covered goods wagon is equipped with movable sliding doors, which further enhances the set.
The Roco 5510003 H0 "Oberammergau" train set with DC sound is a perfect choice for model railroaders who want to bring the charm of Bavarian local railroads and the technical advances of Era IV to their layout. With its detailed design and modern digital functions, this set is a must-have for collectors and active model railroaders.
