The entire train comes fully equipped right out of the box. This means the numerous added details are immediately visible upon unpacking. The seven cars provide an attractive foundation for operating a modern ÖBB night train.
With this Roco Nightjet, the focus is on an exceptionally elaborate rendering of the vehicle details. The control car’s front end is finely crafted, while multi-part car floors with separately attached skirts ensure a realistic depiction of the vehicle’s undersides. The areas behind the skirts and the exposed components are also carefully designed.
The newly designed bogies are based on Siemens’ lightweight construction strategy. Separately attached disc brakes complement the technical appearance. The air conditioning units on the roofs, some of which are mounted separately, underscore the highly detailed design.
Another highlight is the car gangways. The connecting lines and hoses are factory-installed, creating a nearly seamless appearance when the train is coupled. At the same time, the cars are coupled as closely together as possible, resulting in a harmonious overall impression.
The multi-part interiors feature numerous separately added details. Doors and mini cabins in the aisle areas are intricately printed. Cabins with varying designs—featuring both open and closed doors—add variety and give each car a unique character.

The digital version of the Roco Nightjet is equipped with an extensive lighting system. All cars feature LED interior lighting and live couplers. Additional lighting functions can be digitally controlled from the control car. These include the cab lighting, high beams, and other lighting functions. The direction-dependent switching between white headlights and red taillights enhances the realistic depiction of train operation. The destination displays are also illuminated.
The control car’s function decoder is integrated via a PluX16 interface. This allows the set to offer numerous possibilities for varied digital operation. The integrated interior lighting and current-carrying couplers enable continuous lighting throughout the entire train formation.
The seven-car set is designed for H0 gauge at a scale of 1:87 and is intended for digital DC operation. The proprietary coupler with close-coupling kinematics allows for a tight connection between the cars. For reliable operation, the specified minimum curve radius of 358 mm should be observed.
With a total length over buffers of 2,137 mm, the complete Nightjet requires sufficiently long track sections and platforms. The train looks particularly impressive on spacious main lines, when entering large stations, or on a layout with nighttime lighting.
