With the Roco 6200274 Car Set 2 for the EC 25 “Franz Liszt,” you can expand your model railroad with three distinctive Deutsche Bahn AG express train cars. This Era V set consists of a 1st-class open-plan car, a dining car, and a 2nd-class open-plan car. All three cars feature the 1996 long-distance red/light gray color scheme, capturing the look of international long-distance rail service from that era. The different car types and the historic route between Cologne and Budapest make this set particularly appealing to enthusiasts of European express trains.
The EuroCity “Franz Liszt” represents a significant development in European long-distance rail travel. As early as 1988, the EC “Lehar”—the first EuroCity—operated across the former Iron Curtain between Vienna and Budapest. In May 1989, the EC “Franz Liszt” followed on this route, with its journey beginning in Cologne.
The route ran from Cologne via Frankfurt, Nuremberg, Linz, and Vienna to Budapest. The train thus connected several major cities and rail networks. Deutsche Bahn, the Austrian Federal Railways, and the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) were involved in the international operation.
In the years that followed, the train’s composition changed. Increasingly, new air-conditioned passenger cars from the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) were put into service. Starting in May 1999, Deutsche Bahn once again provided the rolling stock. This development makes the EC “Franz Liszt” an interesting model for model railroad enthusiasts interested in international train connections from Era V.
The Roco 6200274 car set includes three different passenger cars that cover various segments of high-quality long-distance service. The formation consists of a 1st-class open-plan car of the Apmz 117.0 class, a dining car of the WRmh 132.1 class, and a 2nd-class open-plan car of the Bpmbz 291.5 class.
The Apmz 117.0 represents the 1st-class open-plan car. It is complemented by the WRmh 132.1 dining car, which represents a distinct car type within the set. The Bpmbz 291.5 completes the set as a 2nd-class open-plan car.
This gives you three different car variants that can be specifically integrated into a Deutsche Bahn AG EuroCity set. Particularly interesting is the combination of cars from both classes and a dining car, which captures the character of an international long-distance train.
A distinctive feature of the Roco car set is its uniform design in the 1996 “Long-Distance Red/Light Gray” color scheme. All three cars feature this paint scheme, reflecting a significant change in Deutsche Bahn’s visual identity.
Starting in 1996, DB AG began phasing out the Deutsche Bundesbahn product colors that had been introduced only about ten years earlier. The change was pushed through with great haste. Long-distance passenger cars were given a light gray paint scheme with a traffic-red window band. This design replaced the previously used “Orient Red,” which faded quickly.
While long-distance passenger cars appeared in light gray with a traffic-red window band, locomotives and commuter trains were given a uniform traffic-red color scheme. The Roco EC-25 car set captures this characteristic design of Era V, bringing the look of Deutsche Bahn AG’s long-distance service to your H0 layout.
The EC “Franz Liszt” connected several European countries. Accordingly, passenger cars suitable for international service were required. All three cars featured in the Roco set are multi-voltage capable and suitable for use throughout Europe.
This feature underscores the cross-border nature of the prototype. The route between Cologne and Budapest traversed various rail networks and was jointly operated by several railway administrations.
For your model railroad collection, this provides an interesting connection to international passenger rail service. The cars represent not only a specific route but also the cooperation among the participating European railway administrations.
The rolling stock of the EC “Franz Liszt” also changed over the course of its operational history. Starting in May 1999, Deutsche Bahn once again provided the rolling stock. This included the Bpmbdzf 297-type IC control car, which had been delivered starting in 1997.
In this context, west of Vienna, the previously used Class 103 was replaced by the Class 101. On the eastern section of the route, an ÖBB Class 1014 electric locomotive took over the traction as scheduled.
There were also changes regarding the dining cars. Since the modernization of 20 DB dining cars in Italy was delayed, existing WRmh 132-class cars continued to be used for the time being. This historical background makes the dining car included in the set a particularly interesting part of the composition.
Would you like to further expand the EC 25 “Franz Liszt” on your H0 model railroad? The Roco 6200274 Car Set 2 offers a perfect complement to the Roco Car Set 1 (item number 6200272). It contains four additional Deutsche Bahn AG EuroCity cars in the same “long-distance red/light gray” color scheme.
With both sets, you can expand your train set to include different car types. The second set adds a 1st-class open-plan car, a dining car, and a 2nd-class open-plan car.
Roco’s IC control car Bpmbdzf 297.3 also picks up on the “Franz Liszt” EC theme and offers another way to expand the corresponding passenger train formation.
All three cars in the Roco 6200274 set are equipped with interior furnishings. This extends the design of the models into the passenger compartment as well. For model railroad enthusiasts who would like to add lighting to their passenger cars, there is the option to retrofit interior lighting.
The Roco interior lighting with part number 4000005 is specified for this purpose. The cars also feature NEM 362 coupler sockets with close-coupling kinematics. Additional technical specifications and dimensions are listed in the Features section.
The Roco 6200274 car set combines three different passenger cars with the history of a significant international long-distance rail service. The distinctive 1996 color scheme, the various car types, and the route between Cologne and Budapest make this set particularly appealing to enthusiasts of European express trains.
Whether you want to complete the EC 25 “Franz Liszt” or expand your collection with select passenger cars from Deutsche Bahn AG, this set provides the perfect foundation.
Expand your international EuroCity train with three distinctive passenger cars! Order the Roco 6200274 Car Set 2 for the EC 25 “Franz Liszt” and bring another piece of European long-distance rail history to your H0 model railroad.
